home theater 5.1, flat panel televisionThe Colony is a show that puts ten people of differing skills together in an urban situation that mimics what it could be like in a post apocalyptic setting. They have to survive off the found food and scraps lying around while dealing with an outside world caulked full of raiders, traders and crazies. I watched the entire first season yesterday and it made me really appreciate all that we take for granted. Take the LCD television I bought online months back: it is a source of news, entertainment and comfort. Take the flat panel television away and life would be tougher to handle. It is a complex device that I would have no idea how to fix if I had to. The scientist in the first season of The Colony could though because he understood it.

It got me thinking about what I know how to do if the chips were down and common comforts like a home theater 5.1 system didn’t mean anything. That got me on a kick to explore how things work in great detail. What I’ve come up with is that people are amazing creatures. Online shopping one minute and video chatting the next.
